As a student who has experienced both the traditional school system and the grade-less system I knew that school had to be done differently. High school is supposed to be a place where you can grow as a learner and really explore your thoughts and interests, when in reality its the opposite of that. How can you grow yourself as learner when your not taking care of yourself first? There are hours of homework, piled on zero hours of sleep which can equal one failing student. Before I get to ahead of myself I'd like to take a step back and say that this website is not about why school is wrong, I am here to present to you both sides of the argument. There are both Pros and Cons to the grade-less system, and this system may not work for everybody, but along the way I'd like to share with you my experiences and let you in on how the grade-less system appeals to me.
So here's a little about me; I am a Sophomore in high school, I'm an honors student, taking AP classes, and generally view myself as a good student, yet my report cards never reflected as such. Getting As was always drilled into my mind, "if you weren't getting A's you weren't succeeding". As I started getting B's and the occasional C I couldn't handle it or process. I was trying so hard and putting in my best effort but there was nothing to show for it. It is in my belief that tests do no accurately represent the student, not to say that tests aren't necessary but there is more to be said for a students ability and potential than a test and a final grade in a class. There is also lack of preparation for the future as you are taught for the test not for life. In AP you are taught to pass the AP test, in other classes you learn for the test to be given at the end of the unit, but your not being taught for you. What are you learning, how are you growing? Having experienced both types of classrooms there is good and bad things to be said about each.
This website isn't to sway you to one side or the other, it is just to educate you on the alternate way of learning that could be beneficial and wide-spread in the future.
